Submissions

We welcome your article submissions on subjects covered by this web site.

If there is a related category that we don't have yet, use our contact form to suggest it. If it's related to pets or wildlife in some way, we will add it for you.

Because of the darn spammers, you must first register for a member account, it's free to register. Use a real email address that you check for your registration, because you will receive a confirmation email with a link you will have to click to activate your account. If you don't receive the confirmation email within a few minutes, check your spam folder.

Once your member account is activated, send us an email through the Contact Us link with your username, and request that we elevate your membership to Author status. Once you have received author status, when you login, you will see links in the left column to submit articles to the various sections. Until you receive Author status, those links will tell you that you are not authorized to access those pages.

From the Your Details link, you can choose to use our "What You See Is What You Get" HTML editor, or if you prefer you can enter your article in Plain Text. If you choose the Plain Text option, you will need to add two < br >
tags (without the spaces inside the <> brackets) at the end of each paragraph. If you use the HTML editor, just hit your Enter button once where you want a new paragraph.

If you already have an HTML editor, or work in something like Microsoft Word, you can also cut and paste your article into the WYSIWYG Editor submission box and it will retain the formatting. Or you can click the HTML link in the editor to get a popup where you can input HTML directly. (If you use a Pop-Up Blocker, hold down your Control key when you click that link.)

Click on a section link, then choose your category from the dropdown box on the article input page. If you are using the Editor, hover your mouse over the various symbols and a box will popup telling you what that control does. You can use as many or as few controls as you are comfortable with. Do keep in  mind that your layout should not stretch or break the layout of the site. The center column where your article will appear is only 428 pixels wide, so you shouldn't use any tables or pictures larger than that. If you have a picture larger than 428 pixels, use a thumbnail and link it to the large picture.

If you find you have questions when you get started posting your articles, just use the Contact Us form to let us know and we will try to help you. There are also more extensive help files for the editor inside the Member's Area.

Monthly Cash Prizes

We give out monthly cash prizes to the author with the most articles, the author of the most popular articles, and the author with the most highest rated articles. The amount of the prizes will depend on how many submissions we receive that month and how many visitors we get to the website.

Follow the Rules

We HATE SPAMMERS. Posting spam will most definitely get your account banned. Spam is any subject that is not appropriate for the categories available to post in or any article that is primarily an advertisement for your own agenda (this does not apply to Adoption & Rescue organizations). You are welcome to link back to your RELATED blog, website, or newsletter (maximum of two links per article).

If you have a RELATED two-tier affiliate program, you can include one affiliate text link, provided you sign up for that program through our affiliate recruitment link. You will be able to see our approved list of affiliates after you create a member account. If you know of something appropriate that is a two-tier program that we don't have listed, let us know and we might add it. If we do, we will sign up from your affiliate link.

Only post your article in the most appropriate category. The search engines don't like duplicate content, so don't cross-post the same article in multiple categories or multiple times.

If you continually post articles in layouts that break the layout of the website, your account will be banned.

While our WYSIWYG editor has a link to add Flash Movies, DON'T. They take too much bandwidth and make the page load too slow. If you want to show a video clip, put it on YouTube.com and link to it.

Don't submit your article in ALL CAPS. This is considered shouting on the internet and is rude, plus it's very hard to read. We'd like to keep the site professional looking. If you do this repeatedly, your account will be banned.

Don't infringe on other people's copyrights. If the article isn't yours or you don't have permission from the author, don't post it. This includes photos.

There is no money incentive for clicking on advertiser's ads, so don't click them unless you are truely interested in their offerings.

Subscribe to our newsletter to keep informed of conservation news, pet tips, and what's new on our web site.
